Genesis 12 – Introducing Abraham!

Here begins the history of Israel. In the twelfth chapter of a book that has over a thousand chapters, proving that despite the lengthiness of the good book, God doesn’t bandy about with words. Here we are at chapter twelve, so much has already happened and now Abraham comes along!

Now in chapter twelve of Genesis, there are some strange goings on involving Abraham pretending that his wife is actually his sister, getting them into a bit of a pickle with Pharaoh, but before that something of mega importance happens!

This is the crux of the existence of the nation of Israel and the crux of the existence of the church today:

“I will make you into a great nation
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”

In fancy terms this is known as the Abrahamic covenant, but I prefer to simply state that we are blessed to be a blessing. The sooner everyone in the body of Christ can understand that whatever God gives to us is given for us to share, the better! Can someone please tell me how on earth there could ever be room for prosperity gospel of any kind if a preacher has read Genesis properly?!

God has given us money – to share

God has given us time – to share

God has given us health – so that we can nurse others

God has given us love – so that we can love others

There is nothing God has given us that is not intended for us to pass on. And for those who receive it from us to pass it on themselves.

Most importantly God has graciously given us the opportunity to spend eternity together with Him and each other in a place where there will be no sadness, no hurt, no pride, no anger. We MUST extend this opportunity to others. How can they believe unless they have heard?
