Tangled

Tangled is definitely a classic Disney animated movie. And apparently the 50th such movie! It’s right up there in my book alongside Aladdin, Mulan and The Lion King (I haven’t seen The Princess and the Frog yet, but I hear that’s right up there too). Continue reading

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

I had reasonably high expectations for this movie and I’m a firm believer that expectations play a big part in the enjoyment of a movie. If I expect a movie to be rubbish I’ll enjoy it if it’s even marginally not rubbish :) Anyway. This fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean wasn’t rubbish. But it wasn’t all that either.

The plot was fine. I followed the story from its premise to it’s conclusion with plenty of curiosity and suspense. I couldn’t have asked for more from the story. Despite some reviewers lamenting the lack of sea battles, I thought it was a really interesting concept! However there were some things that stopped it from being up there with the previous movies. The Tourist

I enjoyed The Tourist! It had a familiar cast, including Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell (both of A Knight’s Tale), as well as the obvious Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, who were the main reasons I wanted to see the movie. Timothy Dalton will be another familiar face, for those of you who have seen Hot Fuzz.

All in all, the acting was superb. Angelina Jolie did a very good, albeit not entirely realistic English accent (especially given that she’s supposedly from the London Metropolitan Police Force, an city not know for having well-spoken residents, bar its aristocracy) and though her character was hard to get into, it was deliberately aloof. Johnny Depp was fantastic as always. Continue reading
