Genesis 25

This is a VERY interesting chapter. Much happens, yet only the last segment really receives the limelight in most Sunday School and sermon teachings.

First off, Abraham remarries (Sarah having died). He then has a bunch more kids. Hands up if you also thought Abraham’s only kids were Ishmael and Isaac? Yep, me too! One of these kids was named Midian. Could he be the father of the Midianites, with whom Israel had a love/hate relationship with later on? (Moses found a wife among them, but Gideon defeated them in battle down the track).

Genesis 23

A chapter that starts off with sorrow, with the death of Sarah. It’s interesting that we consider funerals to be a fairly significant religious service, but Genesis 23 only goes as far as to say

Abraham went to mourn for Sarah and to weep over her

Genesis 21

This is a pretty interesting chapter! The Philistines appear here. It’s perhaps strange to think that they existed before Israel when we’re used to thinking of them as if their sole purpose in life was to frustrate the Israelites and own a giant. But no, they were around much longer than that!

Also, Sarah has a baby. Abraham was 100 so this was quite an achievement! Certainly the provision of God. There’s no doubt that our God is a God of miracles! :) There’s a feast and all is going well.
