Top 5 Relient K Songs

Relient K are a great band, talented at both the hilarious and the thought-provoking. So I thought I’d list my favourite five songs of theirs here, for you to inspect if you so wish :)

I Celebrate the Day

This video extends the intro a bit beyond the original recording, but nonetheless, it’s probably the most contextual Christmas song written in many years. I say contextual cause it looks at the entire purpose for which Jesus came, and not just the cute baby side of things. “I celebrate the day that You were born to die so I could one day pray for You to save my life.” Continue reading

Merry Christmas! :)

Thought I should pop in to bring you all the season’s greetings!

I’d love to see the nativity story filmed one day as a thriller. It’s actually quite a freaky story. A bunch of (apparently frightening) angels appear to different people, a baby is born in a pretty disgusting out building, and then they have to run for their lives from a violent king… All in all, quite different to the fluffy sheep we’re used to seeing. Anyway. That’s for another time. This year, I’ll leave you with these lyrics by Relient K, who perhaps quite nicely sum up the purpose of Jesus’ birth:

And the first time
That You opened Your eyes did You realize that You would be my Saviour
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever

And I, I celebrate the day
That You were born to die
So I could one day pray for You to save my life

Feliz Navidad! Maligayang Pasko! Merry Christmas! :)
